Judaism Without Walls will host the third annual Milwaukee Conference for Jewish Women on Sunday, Sept. 10, from 11:30 a.m. to 5:30 p.m., at the Zelazo Center at the University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee.
The conference theme is “bringing Judaism into our hearts, homes and lives.” Keynote speaker Adrienne Gold will speak about “Beauty, Self Esteem and Dignity in the Glare of the Media.”
Gold was a fixture on Canadian television, as a regular contributor on CTV’s “Canada AM,” “Dini” and “Camilla Scott” shows and as host of her own daily style show, “Images with Adrienne Gold.”
“Her direct approach and often disarming honesty built a large and loyal following of viewers. Audiences were inspired, informed and entertained by Adrienne’s view of the world,” according to the conference brochure.
Gold left television two years ago to pursue a full-time care career in Jewish education and public speaking.
Participants will choose from workshops: “The Keys to Successful Relationships,” by Ali Begoun; “Bringing Judaism into our Hearts, Homes and Lives,” by Rebbetzin Feige Twerski; “The Power of Positive Thinking,” by Michael Luber, Psy.D.; and It’s Your Health, It’s Your Choice!” by Bonnie Frenkel, B.A.
The second session of workshops includes: “Caring For Your Aging Parents,” by Barbara Friedlander; “Vulnerability and Joy: The Jewish Perspective,” by Gold; “The Power of Collective Healing,” by Melanie Wasserman, M.S.W., L.C.S.W.; and “The Good News About Breast Cancer: Eliminate Your Fears,” by Richard Lopchinsky, M.D., F.A.C.S.
Conference coordinator Yonina Schlussel said, “The goal of the conference is to get women from different backgrounds to connect with each other.” She said that approximately 150 people attended each of the two previous conferences.
“Everyone has something they can learn,” Schlussel said. She hopes that the event will allow “each person to connect to Judaism on [her] own level.”
The event is co-sponsored by the Coalition for Jewish Learning, the education program of the Milwaukee Jewish Federation; the federation’s Women’s Division; Hadassah-Milwaukee Chapter; Jewish Family Services; the Wisconsin Society for Jewish Learning; the Harry & Rose Samson Family Jewish Community Center; the National Conference of Jewish Women; and JFS’s Pathways to Healing program.
It is funded in part by a grant from the Helen Bader Foundation.
Cost, $36 by Aug. 28 and $50 at the door, includes a kosher lunch and refreshments throughout the day.
