Judith Kerns Pence

Milwaukee native Judith Pence (nee Kerns) died Dec. 14 in Carmel, Ind., of colon cancer. She was 42.

She was a 1979 graduate of Nicolet High School where she was a member of the tennis team. She continued her education at Indiana University, graduating in 1983. She was a flight attendant for Delta Airlines and also worked in retailing.

According to her family, “She was a woman of courage, dignity, vitality and beauty, and was a compassionate friend, touching so many lives. She was devoted to her family and friends and enjoyed life to the fullest.”

She was an active volunteer for Sweet Dreams of Indianapolis, The Emily Hunt Foundation and the PTA of the Carmel School District.

Funeral services were held Dec. 17 in Carmel. In addition, Rabbi David Cohen officiated at a memorial service at Congregation Sinai in Milwaukee on Dec. 28.

She is survived by husband Thomas J. Pence; children Andrew, Jennifer and Samuel Pence, all of Carmel; parents Henry (Pat) and Joan Kerns of Milwaukee; brothers Bill (Patty) Kerns of Milwaukee and Jim (Xiu) Kerns of San Francisco; and grandparents Allan and Eddie Polacheck of Milwaukee.
