Judith Hope Soref

Judith Hope Soref (nee Pfeifer) of Milwaukee died of cancer at age 65 on Oct. 16.
Native to Chicago, she finished high school via night school and came to Wisconsin around 1959. She attended the Milwaukee Area Technical College in the 1980s.
A mail-handler for Milwaukee’s downtown post office and member of the mail-handler’s union, she was awarded the Safety Award from her employer.

For many years she was active in Beth El Ner Tamid Synagogue’s choir and also a member of the synagogue. She was also an active member of MENSA.

According to her family, her special interests included singing, reading science fiction and doing crossword puzzles. She also enjoyed several crafts, including sewing clothes and costumes for her family, building furniture and making non-allergenic soap and yogurt.

She is survived by daughters Linda Stein of Milwaukee and Cheryl Soref of Madison; brothers Alan Pfeifer and George Pfeifer; and sister Sandi Cohen, all of Chicago; and seven grandchildren.

Services were held at Spring Hill Cemetery on Tuesday, Oct. 19. Rabbi Shlomo Pontos officiated.
