Milwaukee resident Joan Wiener Prince died of cancer Dec. 12. She was 85.
Born in Breslau, Germany, she moved to Wisconsin in 1936. She attended Riverside High School and then the University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee, where she earned a bachelor’s degree. She was self-employed as a garden designer.
A member of Congregation Sinai, she was also involved with the Rose Society, the Social Science Club, the Whitefish Bay Building Board and the Whitefish Bay Library Board.
According to her family, her other interests included photography, gardening, judging roses, and frequent travels to England to study the royal gardens. In addition, her own garden was part of an annual garden tour.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Norman H. Prince, in 1978. She is survived by daughters Peg Prince of Milwaukee and Ginny Prince Cleary of Des Moines, Iowa; and two grandchildren.
Rabbi David Cohen officiated at funeral services on Dec. 20. Burial was at Greenwood Cemetery.
