Irving Kadwit

Irving Kadwit of Glendale, an employee of the Goodman-Bensman Funeral Home in Milwaukee for almost six decades, died Dec. 22 of natural causes. He was 85.

Born in South Bend, Ind., he was raised in Kenosha and graduated from Kenosha High School in 1938 before moving to Milwaukee in 1940.

He worked at Goodman-Bensman for 58 years. He received an award from the Milwaukee Jewish Burial Sacred Society (Chevra Kadisha) in 2000 in gratitude for “steadfast, reliable, hardworking, always available, dedicated, cooperative and helpful” service.

Tom Andrus of Goodman-Bensman described him as “truly one of a kind. He greeted everyone that came in by name” and on many occasions helped rabbis prepare for funerals because he was “a walking genealogical resource.”

“From 1946 to December 2004 he helped every family that came to our funeral home. During his 58 years [here], Irv took one known vacation,” Andrus said.

Although he enjoyed all sports, he was a particular fan of the Green Bay Packers.

He is survived by wife Sharon Kadwit (nee Lovett) of Glendale.

Hazzan Mitchell Martin officiated at services in Sunset Ridge Cemetery, Kenosha on Dec. 27.
