Funeral services were held Sept. 23 for Ingeborg (Inge) Miriam Florsheim (nee Gotthilf) of Fox Point. She died Sept. 21 at the age of 89.
She was born in Berlin, Germany, and attended finishing school in Lausanne, Switzerland. She came to Milwaukee in 1937.
She married Ernst Florsheim in Milwaukee in 1944. They met at a New Home Club social, a group of recently arrived German Jews, in which they were both active.
A homemaker, she enjoyed traveling and entertaining in her home. She loved to cook and bake and was known for her “secret chocolate cake recipe.” Her family recalled that her kitchen smelled “like heaven.”
An athlete in her youth, she continued to play tennis well into her 60s.
She was a longtime member of Congregation Emanu-El B’ne Jeshurun and supported several organizations and charities.
In addition to her husband of 57 years, she is survived by sons Peter Florsheim of Houston, Tex., and Richard (Neena) Florsheim of Mequon; sister Ilse Hurst of Sharon Springs, N.Y.; brother Steven Hurst of Dallas, Tex.; three grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.
Rabbi Gil-Ezer Lerer officiated at the funeral. Burial was in Second Home Cemetery.
Contributions to the City of Hope were suggested by the family.
