Funeral services were held June 9 for Harry Lensky of Glendale. He died June 7 at the age of 75. He had undergone a liver transplant seven years ago.
He was born in Milwaukee and had lived at the Jewish Children’s Home for four years as a child, which, according to his family, “greatly influenced his involvement with Jewish Family Services as an adult.”
He graduated from North Division High School, then earned a Bachelor of Arts degree in history and a law degree at the University of Wisconsin-Madison.
He was an attorney in private practice and a member of the Milwaukee, Wisconsin and American bar associations. He retired from the local law firm of Safer and Stein in 2002.
He belonged to Congregation Beth Israel, where he had served as president, vice president and parliamentarian. He was a past president of JFS and of the former East Side Hebrew School.
An avid reader, his other special interests included studying history, especially the Civil War, and watching football. He underwent a liver transplant seven years ago.
He is survived by his wife, Phyllis Lensky (nee Kaplan); daughter Roberta (Marvin) Lensky of Thornhill, Ontario; son Rabbi Melech/Mark (Judy) Lensky of Worcester, Mass.; father-in-law Louis Kaplan of Glendale; sister-in-law Edith Kaplan of San Francisco; and nine grandchildren.
Rabbis Paul Kerbel, Herbert Panitch and Michel Twerski officiated at the funeral. Burial was in Mound Zion Cemetery.
The family would appreciate memorials to Congregation Beth Israel, Jewish Family Services or the Wisconsin Donor Network.
