Harry James Blumenfeld, D.D.S., a longtime resident of Whitefish Bay, died Sept. 1 at the age of 93.
A Milwaukee native, Blumenfeld earned a bachelor’s degree in 1935 and a doctor of dental science degree in 1936 through a combined degree program at Marquette University.
He served as a dental officer in the U.S. Navy Air Force in the Pacific from 1943 to 1946.
According to his family, he was a pioneer in the development of hospital dentistry in Wisconsin, serving as chief of the dental section at Mt. Sinai Hospital. He served in many professional organizations and was recognized with a number of achievement awards in his field, including from the Milwaukee Common Council and the Milwaukee County Board of Supervisors.
Preceded in death by wife Belle Blumenfeld (nee Schwartz), he is survived by daughter Roberta (Stuart) Fine of Milwaukee, three grandchildren and six great-grandchildren.
Rabbi Ronald Shapiro officiated at graveside services in Greenwood Cemetery, Sept. 3.
