Milwaukee native Harriet Judith Hait, nee Sweet, died March 31 of respiratory failure at the age of 79.
She was a 1944 graduate of Washington High School.
A member of Beth El Ner Tamid Synagogue, she was a past president of its Sisterhood and a recipient of its Woman of Valor award. She was a past president of Women’s American ORT, and the local PTA, as well as the founder and president of the Milwaukee chapter of the Sjögren’s disease support group. In addition, she worked for nine years as a volunteer bookkeeper at the Jewish Home for the Aged.
Her special interests included Beth El Ner Tamid affairs and as well as her children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren, her family said.
She is survived by husband Eli Hait; daughter Diane (Lynn) Pagenkop of Glendale; sons Gary Hait of Milwaukee and Daniel (Arlene) Hait of New Berlin; brother Norbert Sweet of Glendale; five grandchildren and five great-grandchildren.
Cantor Jerome Berkowitz officiated at funeral services April 2. Burial was in Spring Hill Cemetery.
Memorials to Sjögren’s Syndrome Foundation or CURED (Campaign Urging Research for Eosinophilic Disease) would be appreciated by the family.
