Fay Recht Derzon died on Aug. 11 at the age of 80.
She was born in Buenos Aires, Argentina, and came to Wisconsin as a child.
According to her family, there were no English as a Second Language programs then, so she was placed in a special education program with her younger brother. As a result, she later “dedicated her professional life to teaching children from foreign countries how to speak English.”
She graduated from North Division High School and received a bachelor’s degree in education from the University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee.
Derzon taught English as a Second Language for many years in the Milwaukee Public School System and was a member of Congregation Shalom.
She is survived by sons Alan (Dalyn) Derzon of Grafton and Mark Derzon of Bakersfield, Calif.; brother Samuel (Toby) Recht of Bayside; ten grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.
Rabbi Joseph Prass and Cantor Karen Berman officiated at graveside services held at Beth Hamedrosh Hagodel Cemetery on Aug. 13.
The family appreciates memorial contributions to the Congregation Shalom Music Fund.
