Milwaukee native Fay Forman (nee Mendelblatt) died on Jan. 23. She was 96.
A graduate of North Division High School and Hoffman Business College, Forman moved to West Bloomfield, Mich., ten years ago to be close to her daughter.
“‘Grandma Fay’ was a sweet, gentle and unassuming lady whose greatest joys in life were her family and love of Judaism,” her family said in a letter to The Chronicle.
Forman was a lifetime member of the Temple Menorah Sisterhood, a member of B’nai B’rith Washington Park Lodge, Women’s American-ORT, the board of directors of New Method Hebrew School and a volunteer at the Jewish Home and Care Center.
A letter written to her family was found among Forman’s records just prior to the funeral, presumably meant to be found at that time. The letter was revealed graveside and read in part, “Thank you for the love and devotion you have all shared with me through the years we had together. Being with all of you was my greatest pleasure in life. I had a good fulfilling life with my beautiful children and grandchildren.”
Forman was preceded in death by her husband, Ben Forman, in 1965. She is survived by sons Sheldon (Narda) Forman of Delray Beach, Fla., and Mel (Susan) Forman of New Canaan, Conn.; daughter Sharyn (Harvey) Mann of Commerce, Mich.; six grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.
Funeral arrangements were handled by Suminski/Weiss Funeral Home. Rabbi Gil-Ezer Lerer officiated at graveside services in Beth Hamedrosh Hagodel Cemetery on Jan. 27.
The family appreciates memorial contributions to Temple Menorah or the Jewish National Fund.
