Milwaukee native Edith Spero Jacobson died of respiratory failure Jan. 28. She was 93.
According to her son Dr. Mitchell (Linda) Jacobson of Milwaukee, after graduating from North Division High School, she worked for the William Bruce Publishing Company.
Then she worked at Beth El Ner Tamid Synagogue until her late 70s — almost her entire working life.
“An institution at the synagogue, she catered to her beloved ‘minyanaires’ and was instrumental in planning bar and bat mitzvahs and weddings for two generations of congregants,” her son said.
“A widow at an early age, she devoted herself to raising her sons and cherished her grandchildren’s visits when they were at the synagogue for religious school,” he added.
She was preceded in death by husband Donald Jacobson in 1955. She also is survived by son Bruce Jacobson of Milwaukee; sister Marian Madalia of Milwaukee; brother Bernard (Anita) Blumberg of Milwaukee; five grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren.
Rabbi Gideon Goldenholz officiated at funeral services at Beth El Ner Tamid Synagogue Jan. 30. Burial was in Second Home Cemetery.
The family would appreciate memorial contributions to the Jewish Home and Care Center, the Helen Bader Center or the Alzheimer’s Association.
