College sweethearts Daniel David Sobel and Jeanette Gecht were married for more than 66 years and died two days apart.
Residents of the Jewish Home and Care Center, Daniel died Aug. 6 of Alzheimer’s disease at the age of 90. Jeanette, 88, died Aug. 8 of natural causes.
Daniel was born in Milwaukee and graduated in 1930 from North Division High School. He received a bachelor’s degree in 1933 from the University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee and a law degree from Marquette University Law School in 1936. He operated his own law practice and was a member of the Wisconsin Bar Association for more than 50 years. He also worked at White Manor Liquor Stores.
He belonged to B’nai B’rith, and the Marquette University Alumni Association. He enjoyed playing bridge.
A native of Chicago, Jeanette came to Milwaukee in 1928 and attended the former Wisconsin State Teachers College, now UWM. She earned a degree in special education in 1933 and taught in the Milwaukee Public Schools.
She was a member of NA’AMAT USA, Hadassah and the State Teachers College Alumni.
Longtime members of Congregation Emanu-El B’ne Jeshurun, they enjoyed traveling and spending time with their grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
They are survived by son Gary (Diane) Sobel of Bayside; daughter Sandra (James) Reddemann of Boynton Beach, Fla.; four grandchildren; and 17 great-grandchildren.
Jeanette is further survived by brothers David (Opal) Gecht of Milwaukee and Dr. Eli Gecht of Fox Point.
Funeral services were conducted by a grandson, Rabbi Andrew Karsh, on Aug. 9. Burial was in Spring Hill Cemetery.
The family would appreciate memorials to the Jewish Home and Care Center.
