Charles Jack Lewin

Longtime Milwaukee resident Charles Jack Lewin of Mequon died on May 9 after a long illness, at age 75.

Born in Tamaqua, Pa., he came to Milwaukee from Philadelphia in 1954. He was the president of Banner Lumber Co. and Riteway Building Mart.

He was a member of Congregation Shalom and a past president of its Men’s Club. He also volunteered by helping young city residents get jobs, by employing them and teaching them skills for finding employment, according to his family.

He especially enjoyed tennis, arts and crafts, concerts, theater, antique cars, the Packers, books and travel and he had a terrific sense of humor, his family said.

He is survived by wife Lynne, nee Bazelon, sons Jay (Terri) of Mequon, and Ross (Jackie) of Grafton; daughter Gail (Robert) Flamini of Atlanta; and seven grandchildren.

Rabbi Ronald Shapiro officiated at a memorial service at Congregation Shalom, May 11.
