Celia Lakes

Celia Lakes (nee Wiernick) died July 28 at the Milwaukee Catholic Home. She was 87.

A lifelong Milwaukee resident, she worked as a sales person at Schuster’s Department Store, which later became Gimbel’s Department Store, from 1957-78.

According to her daughter, Gerri (Ira) Epstein of Mequon, “She will always be remembered for her love of life, enthusiasm, pride and devotion to family and friends. She loved spending time with her children, family, and especially her grandchildren.”

She is further survived by sisters Rose Wiernick and Ruth Wiernick, both of Milwaukee, and three grandchildren. She was preceded in death by son Ronny Lakes, who died in 1970.

Rabbi Steven Adams officiated at the funeral on July 31. Burial was in Mound Zion Cemetery.

The family would appreciate memorials to the Alzheimer’s Association of Southeastern Wisconsin or the Milwaukee Catholic Home.
