Carl Schulman

Wausau native Carl Schulman died March 3 of leukemia at the Jewish Home and Car Center. He was 83.

He was a 1937 graduate of Wausau High School and settled in Milwaukee 1941 after graduating from the University of Wisconsin-Madison.

He was an industrial engineer and worked at the Louis Allis Company for 40 years. He also worked part-time at Waldheim’s Furniture Store and later at Bachman’s for 38 years.

He was a member of Congregation Beth Israel, where he was principal of its religious school and a member of its Men’s Club; and of Congregations Anshe Sfard and Anshai Lebowitz.

He also belonged to the Jewish War Veterans of the USA, Milwaukee Harmony Masonic Lodge, the Jewish Community Center Senior Center, and the Louis Allis Management Club.

According to his family, he was always interested in going to shul and made sure there was a minyan — even if he had to pick up the people and bring them along. He was a people person and enjoyed helping others including shopping for the sick. When he moved into the care center, he became the official greeter “because of his outgoing personality.”

He is survived by his wife, Gertrude “Goldie” Schulman (nee Hansher) of Milwaukee; daughters Bobbie (Shel) Fishman of Milwaukee and Shelly (Arnold) Snap of Gurnee, Ill.; sister Dorothy Wolf of Wausau; and three grandchildren.

Rabbis Bernard Reichman and Baruch Comrov officiated at the funeral on March 5. Burial was in Second Home Cemetery.
