Lifelong Milwaukeean Ben W. Margolis died at his Mequon home on April 8 of pneumonia. He was 92.
A graduate of North Division High School, he lived and worked in downtown Milwaukee his entire life. Nicknamed “Mac,” his first job was as a newsboy on Wisconsin Ave. He then worked in the circulation department of the Wisconsin News and later at the Milwaukee Journal. Through his relationship with the circulation manager, he became the manager of the Journal Company’s parking lots for 25 years.
He was a member of Beth El Ner Tamid Synagogue and its Men’s Club, and B’nai B’rith. His priority was always his family, of which he was very proud.
According to his son, Atty. Marvin (Ann) Margolis of Whitefish Bay, “He will be remembered for his sense of humor, honesty, outstanding ethics and his kindness to all who worked with him.”
He is further survived by his wife of 68 years, Jen Margolis (nee Dekelboum) of Mequon; son Dr. Lawrence (Barbara) Margolis of Hillsborough, Calif.; sister Gertrude (Sid) Kozak; five grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren.
Rabbi Ronald Shapiro officiated at the funeral on April 10. Burial was in Mound Zion Cemetery.
