Alexander Swartz

Retired Madison pharmacist Alexander Swartz died Nov. 12 of congestive heart failure. He was 83.

A native of Philadelphia, he moved to Madison in 1937 and began a 50-year career with Schwartz Pharmacy. He served in the U.S. Army during World War II, stationed at Fort Sheridan, Ill.

He married Claire Feit in Madison in 1948. She died in May after 54 years of marriage.
He was a member of Beth Israel Center and B’nai B’rith.

His survivors include daughters Susan (David) Fish of Seattle and Judith (Joel) Marcus of Spring Green; brother Harry Swartz of Boca Raton, Fla.; and two grandchildren.
Rabbi Kenneth Katz officiated at the funeral on Nov. 13.
