During Israel’s 1948 War of Independence, he served in battle with the 89th Mobile Commando Battalion under Moshe Dayan.
After being wounded in combat, his family said, he came to the U.S. where he married Lucille Forman in Milwaukee in 1951. He founded Frenkel Furniture, a television, electronics and furniture store, which he owned and operated for 45 years.
He was a member of Beth El Ner Tamid Synagogue.
He is survived by Lucille, his wife of 53 years; sons Dan Frenkel (Kellie Heath) of Milwaukee, and Tom (Jane) Frenkel of Scottsdale, Ariz.; daughter Laurie (Bruce) Herman of Milwaukee; brother Don (Nina) Frenkel of Irvine, Calif.; and six grandchildren.
