Ruth Gordon

January 11th, 2002

Ruth Gordon (nee Shapiro) died Dec. 27 at Sinai/Samaritan Medical Center at the age of 87.

She was born in Chicago, where she resided until her marriage to Sam Gordon in 1940. They lived for 20 years in Manitowoc, where she was active in the Jewish community, especially the National Council of Jewish Women.

In 1960, the couple moved to Milwaukee and worked together at General Produce, Inc., a family business.

According to her family, “She enjoyed numerous, close, personal relationships with both friends and family and will be best remembered for her intelligence, kindness and undying loyalty to those she loved.”

Moreover, “In 1986, she suffered a massive stroke and because of her inner strength and will to live, she recovered enough to truly embrace life for another 15 years,” according to the family.

She is survived by her husband; daughters Pam Kriger of Milwaukee and Ellen Bold of Kansas City, Mo.; and three grandchildren.

Funeral services were held Dec. 30, followed by interment at Greenwood Cemetery.

Donations to the Ruth Gordon Endowment Fund at Jewish Family Services would be appreciated by the family.
