Willenson’s camp featured on “Extreme Makeover: Home Edition”
June 1st, 2007
The Milwaukee-based Camp Heartland, founded and operated by Milwaukeean Neil Willenson, was featured on the May 20 season finale of ABC television’s “Extreme Makeover: Home Edition.”
Camp Heartland is a non-profit organization dedicated to improving the lives of children and families facing HIV/AIDS. The organization, headquartered in Minneapolis and Milwaukee, runs a year-round camp located in northern Minnesota.
Willenson nominated New York resident and mother of three Heartland campers Debbie Oatman-Gaitan for the home makeover after hearing that her house was sinking into the ground.
In addition to renovating her home, “Extreme Makeover” also renovated a facility near Albany, N.Y., for a second Camp Heartland location, which is expected to serve an additional 250 children and family members this summer.
Adria Willenson, a muralist and Neil’s wife, participated in painting a 12 by 36 foot mural for the new Camp Heartland recreation center.
