Bootzin will attempt to break world record

April 13th, 2007

Milwaukee resident Michael Bootzin will attempt to break the Guinness World Record for continuous speaking beginning on June 14, 7:00 p.m., at Futuregreen, 2352 S. Kinnickinnic Ave.

Bootzin, who represents the U.S. Campaign for Burma, hopes his efforts will draw attention to the plight of imprisoned Nobel Prize winner Aung San Suu Kyi (pronounced Ong Sawn Sue Chee) and the rest of Burma’s citizens living under that country’s brutal military dictatorship.

Suu Kyi has been under house arrest for 11 of the last 17 years, despite the fact that her political party won the majority of parliamentary seats during Burma’s last democratic election.

Bootzin, a guitar/piano instructor, local volunteer, and stage hand, plans to read the work of Suu Kyi and other peace activists during the marathon. In order to break the world record, he will have to speak for 111 consecutive hours.
