Pelc ordained May 14
June 9th, 2006
Julie Pelc was ordained a rabbi at Hebrew Union College-Jewish Institute of Religion in Los Angeles on May 14. She previously earned masters degrees from Harvard University Graduate School of Education and the University of Judaism. She traces her love of Judaism to her early experiences at the Milwaukee Jewish Day School, her family said.
Julie was awarded the Professor Stanley Gevirtz Award for Excellence in Bible and the Lorraine Helman Rubine Memorial Prize for scholarly writing in rabbinical school for her work on her rabbinic thesis: Talk to Me: Wisdom from the Book of Job (When More Bad Things Happen to Good People).
Next year, she will split her time working as a freelance rabbi in several Jewish schools, synagogues and communities in the Los Angeles area, including work as a writer and researcher for the Jewish Publication Society to create a reference guide to the Bible.
Julie is the daughter of Sheryl and Claudio Pelc of Mequon.
