Kathryn Leah Shafer

A daughter, Kathryn Leah Shafer, was born Sept. 11 to Claire and Dan Shafer of San Jose, Calif. She joins brother Sam, 2.

The maternal grandparents are Dr. Hildi Grossman of Brookline, Mass. and Dr. Eugene Youkilis of Wheeling, Ill. Edith and Neil Shafer of Fox Point are the paternal grandparents.

The baby is named in memory of her paternal great-grandmother, Gerda Oelsner.
