Raymond R. Strauss

Milwaukee native Raymond R. Strauss died on Aug. 3 of heart failure. He was 88.
He graduated from Washington High School in 1935, and later attended the University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee for two years. He owned a meat packing company called Strauss Bros. until 1965, after which he served as vice president of Prudential-Bache International, Ltd.
He served as the president of the Milwaukee Meat Council, president of the Milwaukee Sales Council, president of the Hartford Ave. School PTA, and vice president of the Milwaukee Jewish Welfare Fund (now the Milwaukee Jewish Federation).
He was a longtime member of Congregation Emanu-El Bne Jeshurun, where he was active in the brotherhood and served on various religious school committees. He also was a member of the Milwaukee Public Museum and Milwaukee Art Museum.
He shared 65 beautiful years of marriage with his wife, Elaine, his family said. He is further survived by son Allan (Judith) Strauss of Milwaukee; daughters Julie L. (Randy) Even of Los Angeles and Wendy S. Schuster of Milwaukee; four grandchildren and one great-grandchild.
Rabbis Ron Shapiro and Marc Berkson officiated at graveside services on Aug. 5 at Greenwood Cemetery.
Memorials to the American Heart Association or Congregation Emanu-El Bne Jeshurun would be appreciated by the family.
