Bess Sverdlin

Bess Sverdlin (nee Mesken) of Fox Point died Dec. 1.

Born in Rice Lake, she was a graduate of Rice Lake High School and the University of Wisconsin-Madison. She worked as a teacher at the University of Illinois and later in the Milwaukee Public School system.

She was a member of Congregation Shalom.

Preceded in death by husband Dr. A. Allen Sverdlin, she is survived by son Michael Sverdlin of Fox Point; sisters Mildred Levinstein of Janesville, Bernice Mesken and Frances Mesken, both of Milwaukee; and nieces and nephews.

Rabbi Ronald Shapiro officiated at graveside services in Anshai Lebowitz Cemetery Friday, Dec. 3.

Memorials to Congregation Shalom would be appreciated by the family.
