Stein grants challenge gift to JFS CHAI program

August 6th, 2004

Milwaukee philanthropist Barbara Stein has granted Jewish Family Services a challenge gift of $15,000 for the agency’s abuse prevention program, CHAI.
According to a press release, Stein is challenging other members of the Milwaukee community and survivors of abuse to match her gift. Stein, a founding member of CHAI, has designated this gift as a memorial to her parents, Ida and Ben Gottfried.

CHAI, originally created in 1997 as a Jewish response to domestic violence, now targets relationships that exhibit any form of psychological or physical abuse. CHAI became a program of JFS in 2002. CHAI and JFS offer education, counseling, advocacy and information to address and prevent violence, abuse and aggression in the home and community.
