Ben Hootkin

Longtime Sheboygan resident Ben Hootkin died July 16 of congestive heart failure at the Jewish Home and Care Center. He was 93.
He graduated from Central High School in Sheboygan in 1929 and attended the University of Wisconsin-Madison, where he majored in music.
He had studied the violin and played with a symphony orchestra. He had owned and operated a liquor store in Sheboygan before moving to Milwaukee in 1967.
He was a member of Sheboygans Congregation Beth El and its Mens Club. He loved music, nature and reading the newspaper every morning from cover to cover.
He is survived by his wife, Myne (Cowen Minash) Hootkin; son Stephen (Pam) Hootkin of New York City; and daughter Marcia (Howard) Gutnick of Virginia Beach, Va. He was preceded in death by his first wife, Jessie Hootkin, who died in 1966.
Rabbi Gideon Goldenholz officiated at the funeral on July 17 in Sheboygan.
Memorials to the Jewish Home and Care Center or the Congregation Beth El Endowment Fund were suggested by the family.
