Richman named ‘distinguished citizen’

The Civic Music Association of Milwaukee (CMA) selected attorney Stephen E. Richman of Whitefish Bay as its 2003 Distinguished Citizen. He will receive the award at a public ceremony on Tues., April 8, 7 p.m., at the Humphrey Scottish Rite Masonic Center, 790 N. Van Buren St.

The award, first given in 1954, is “presented to individuals who have given meritorious service in the musical development of the community,” according to CMA.

Richman served on the board of Music for Youth, now Milwaukee Youth Symphony Orchestra, for many years, including two years as president. He is chair of the steering committee for the Milwaukee Youth Arts Center.

He also serves on the board of the Milwaukee Symphony Orchestra, including two years as chairman, and served several terms on the board and executive committee of the United Performing Arts Fund.

He chaired the arts segment of the Sesquicentennial Celebration of the Milwaukee Jewish community and served a term as president of the Milwaukee Jewish Federation.
