Women’s network honors ’77 conference delegates

State delegates to the first National Women’s Conference in 1977 were honored Sunday, Oct. 11, by the Wisconsin Women’s Network at its Stateswomen of the Year Awards brunch in Madison.

Among the state’s 32 women to attend the inaugural event were Gene Boyer of Madison and L. Mandy Stillman of Milwaukee.

In 1977, the group met in Houston to developed goals regarding credit, education, employment, rape, reproductive freedom, poverty and abuse that have changed the lives of women all over the United States.

Boyer is a founder of the National Organization for Women and the Wisconsin Women’s Network. Stillman is a Milwaukee attorney.
