Congregation Shalom to mark 60th anniversary
August 1st, 2012
Congregation Shalom will celebrate the 60th anniversary of its founding with events beginning at the end of this month.
On Friday, Aug. 31, the synagogue will hold a 60th Anniversary Shabbat Service and BBQ Dinner.
On Saturday, Sept. 1, the synagogue will hold a Casino Night, beginning at 7 p.m.
On Sunday, Sept. 2, the congregation will go to Miller Park for a tailgating party and a Milwaukee Brewers game, beginning at 11 a.m. (The game begins at 1 p.m.)
Finally, on Friday, Sept. 7, the congregation will dedicate at a 6 p.m. Shabbat service a pair of tall metal sculptures called “The Pillars” by congregant Richard Edelman.
The metal constructions represent the pillars of cloud and fire that led the Israelites through the wilderness in the Torah. They are a gift from Richard and Nina Edelman, Joan Edelman Spero and C. Michael Spero, Robert H. Edelman and Nancy Gorens Edelman, James Abraham Edelman and Susan Stern Edelman, and their 12 children; and are dedicated in honor of Rabbi Ronald Shapiro and in memory of Sam and Sylvia Edelman.
