Letter: Jerusalem Post conference was inspiring event
June 1st, 2012
I attended the Jerusalem Post conference in New York City on April 29 on “Israel 2012: Fighting for the Zionist Dream.” I would not have missed it for all the halvah in the city.
More than 1,000 people attended. I arrived early and got a seat in the front row. On my left sat a firebrand woman from a synagogue in New York. On my right sat a Christian from a church near Nashville, Tenn.
I understand that the goal of the enemies of Israel is nothing less than the destruction of the State of Israel and death to every last Jew. They have failed to achieve their goals militarily, economically, and diplomatically.
The new battlefield is cyber-space and the new target is the so-called “soft belly” of the Diaspora. We must not fail to take this threat seriously. We must continue to be strong.
I admit that I have a selfish motive. I am a Christian man married to a Jewish woman and I have three Jewish children. I want my wife and family to live. In order for them to continue living, the rest of the Jews and the State of Israel need to live.
Moreover, I truly do believe that this time around, if Israel and the Jews go up in flames, so does the entire world.
Prof. Alan Dershowitz expressed it best when he said at the conference, “I may offer my opinions to the Israelis and I may not agree with their decisions; however, these are their decisions and theirs alone to make. Regardless of their decisions, I will forever support and defend Israel.” As an American citizen and as a human being, the same goes for me.
