Beckert honored as women’s health advocate

Barbara Beckert, Milwaukee office director of Disability Rights Wisconsin, will be one of seven people given the Champion in Women’s Health Award by the Wisconsin Women’s Health Foundation.

The awards will be presented on Saturday, May 5, at the Madison Club, 5 E. Wilson St., Madison, at a luncheon scheduled for 11:30 a.m.-1:30 p.m. Awardees will also be honored that evening at the Wisconsin Women’s Health Foundation’s 13th Annual Spring Gala held at the State Capitol Rotunda from 8 p.m.–midnight.

Beckert has been director of the DRW Milwaukee office since 2008. Her previous positions included assistant director at the Milwaukee Jewish Council for Community Relations (now the Jewish Community Relations Council of the Milwaukee Jewish Federation).

She is also co-founder and chair of Make It Work Milwaukee, a coalition of more than 40 local agencies; and she coordinates the Milwaukee Mental Health Task Force.

The Wisconsin Women’s Health Foundation is a statewide non-profit organization seeking to help Wisconsin women and their families reach their healthiest potential.
