Sylvia Stein
May 28th, 2010
Sylvia Stein (nee Pack) died April 25 at age 92.
After graduating from Washington High School in 1934, she worked as a window dresser in women’s clothing shops. After she married Seymour Stein in 1940, the pair worked together for 30 years in their own income tax business.
A member of Congregation Shalom, she belonged to B’nai B’rith Women, Hadassah and NA’AMAT USA. For many years, she volunteered at Children’s Hospital of Wisconsin and Milwaukee Public Television, in addition to serving as a Boy Scout and Brownie leader.
She particularly enjoyed traveling, dancing, knitting, and playing mahjong and bridge. But “her greatest love was for her family,” said her family.
Burial was in Spring Hill Cemetery. Rabbi Ronald Shapiro officiated. Goodman-Bensman Whitefish Bay Funeral Home handled the arrangements.
She is survived by daughter Nancy (Larry) Klein of Milwaukee; son Mark (Phyllis) Stein of Los Angeles; two grandchildren and one great-granddaughter.
The family would appreciate memorial contributions to Susan G. Komen for the Cure, ww5.komen.org, or Children’s Hospital of Wisconsin, www.chw.org.
