Coleman Gertler

Milwaukee dentist Coleman Gertler died Nov. 2 at age 87.
A native of Saskatoon, Saskatchewan, Canada, Gertler graduated from the University of Saskatchewan in 1942, received his dental degree from McGill University in 1950 and came to Milwaukee for a preceptorship with Dr. J.B. Franklin, then chairman of Marquette University’s orthodontic department.
He held a variety of leadership positions with many medical associations, including: the Greater Milwaukee Dental Association; the Wisconsin Dental Association, which awarded him in 1998 with a lifetime achievement award; the American Academy of Craniomandibular Disorders; the Wisconsin Dental Association, which he served as president in 1972-1973.
His involvement with the American Dental Association included six years as a member of its House of Delegates and two years as a trustee representing the ninth district.
He received several awards for his dentistry and outstanding service.
Gertler is survived by wife Jane Gertler (nee Haske) of Bayside; sons Mark (Cara Lown) Gertler, Paul (Kathy Eyre) Gertler, and Frank Gertler; sister Sylvia Clemens; brothers Dr. Menard Gertler, Abe (Naomi) Gertler, and David (Pauline) Gertler; and three grandchildren.
Funeral services were held Nov. 5 at Northshore Funeral Services. Burial was in Spring Hill Cemetery. Blane Goodman Funeral Service handled the funeral arrangements.
