Jewish Community Foundation awards $74K in grants

The grants committee of the Jewish Community Foundation, chaired by Abigail Nash, awarded a total of $74,169 in the fall 2008 grants cycle. The recipients were:

• Arts @ Large — $1,500 for the second phase of the 2008/09 Milwaukee Heroism Project.

• Wisconsin Institute for Torah Study — $1,000 for Project Gadlus.

• Jewish Museum Milwaukee — $2,000 for video and film transfer.

• Milwaukee Jewish Day School — $10,000 for middle school Hebrew programming.

• Harry & Rose Samson Family Jewish Community Center and Coalition for Jewish Learning — $6,500 for “Live from New York’s 92nd St. Y.”

• Harry & Rose Samson Family Jewish Community Center — $7,000 for Community Spirituality Weekend with Rabbi Levi Weiman-Kelman.

• Jewish Family Services — $7,000 for front desk expansion and $5,000 for Respecting Privacy, Recognizing Needs.

• Milwaukee Jewish Council for Community Relations — $5,300 for Milwaukee non-Jewish community leaders to attend the IAI Israel Institute in Israel.

• Coalition for Jewish Learning — $6,000 for Connecting with the Electronic Generation.

• Nathan & Esther Pelz Holocaust Education Resource Center — $2,500 for Touch Up Your Jewish Roots.

• Hillel Foundation of the University of Wisconsin — $8,000 for Israel advocacy programming and for The Voice student magazine.

• Hillel Academy, Jewish Beginnings Lubavitch Preschool, Milwaukee Jewish Day School — $2,769 for Trouble-free Playground Workshop for teachers and staff.

• Jewish Beginnings — $1,600 for software and classroom technology.

• Torah Academy of Milwaukee — $5,000 for social studies materials and resource improvement.

• B’nai Brith Youth Organization — $3,000 for Up All Night 2008.

The Jewish Community Foundation is the endowment development program of the Milwaukee Jewish Federation.
