Holocaust Stories: In Their Honor series this month features Lee Marnett on Dec. 3. Free film class: Holocaust

Explore Jewish films on a large screen in an informal classroom setting and participate in educational discussions with Milwaukee Jewish educators and professionals. Free and open to the community. Presented at the Harry & Rose Samson Family Jewish Community Center, 6255 N. Santa Monica Blvd. in Whitefish Bay. JccMilwaukee.org. “A Taste of the Israeli Ma’ale Film School: The Little Dictator and A-Maiseh.” In the comedic drama “The Little Dictator” (28 minutes), a dull history professor who specializes in the study of totalitarian leaders finds himself in a surreal situation at the 90th birthday party of his wife’s grandmother, a Holocaust survivor. The film “A-Maiseh” (18 minutes) takes a look at the relationship between an elderly Holocaust survivor and his Filipino caretaker who does not have a work permit. In Hebrew with subtitles. Wednesday, Dec. 6

Hadassah Chanukah

The Milwaukee chapter of Hadassah invites you to attend its annual Chanukah Party on Dec. 6, 6 p.m. at a private home in Glendale. The chapter will continue its tradition with a white elephant gift exchange (bring a wrapped white elephant gift). Film on Sidney Lumet 

“By Sidney Lumet” is a 2015 U.S. film. A portrait of one of America’s top filmmakers, this documentary includes a never-before-seen interview of Lumet shot in 2008, as well as clips of many of his signature films including “12 Angry Men,” “Serpico,” “Dog Day Afternoon,” “Network” and “The Pawnbroker.” Lumet’s films often illuminated his concern with social justice and ethical dilemmas. Blue laws

“Lunch & Learn: A Historical Perspective on the Work Week (& Blue Laws)” event at Jewish Museum Milwaukee. Blue laws, which were designed to enforce religious standards in America, restricted or banned businesses from opening on Sundays to promote the predominantly observed day of worship or rest. Join scholar Jonathan Pollack on Dec. 15, 11:15 a.m.-1 p.m. in exploring the historical and contemporary implications for the Jewish people. Pollack has been a full-time history instructor at Madison Area Technical College since 1998, and an honorary fellow of the Center for Jewish Studies at the University of Wisconsin–Madison since 2012. He also serves on the Ritual Committee of Beth Israel Center in Madison. Kosher box lunches are available to order in advance or feel free to bring your own lunch. Lecture and lunch $18. Chanukah in Waukesha

Congregation Emanu-El of Waukesha will celebrate Chanukah on Dec. 15. The event, which begins with games and songs at 5:30 p.m., is open to the public. The 6 p.m. dinner is pot-luck and will include a latke bakeoff. The 7 p.m. service that night will include Chanukat haSiddur – presenting the 3rd/4th-grade students their own prayer book. Israeli films

“A Taste of the Israeli Ma’ale Film School: ‘The Gravedigger’s Daughter’ and ‘The Divide.’” In “The Gravedigger’s Daughter” (17 minutes), Esther, the only daughter in a traditional Sephardic home, wishes to follow in her father’s footsteps as a gravedigger. The problem is that in his will, her father requested that one of his sons follow in his profession – a job that none of his sons wishes to undertake. “The Divide” (22 min) raises the dilemma faced by a young man who joined the army – despite his parents’ objection – when he learns that the army has given an order to evict his family. Annual Christmas cinema

The Jewish Museum Milwaukee Annual Christmas Cinema will feature “The Princess Bride.” Looking for something fun to do Christmas Day? As you wish — visit Jewish Museum Milwaukee to enjoy the classic fairy tale “The Princess Bride,” and film-fare-favorite – popcorn!

Bring your kids and a blanket. “The Princess Bride” tells the story about a farmhand named Westley, accompanied by befriended companions along the way, who must rescue his true love Princess Buttercup from the odious Prince Humperdinck. Released 30 years ago, the movie was directed and co-produced by Rob Reiner and stars Cary Elwes, Robin Wright, Mandy Patinkin, Chris Sarandon, Wallace Shawn, André the Giant and Christopher Guest. In 2000, readers of Total Film magazine voted “The Princess Bride” the 38th greatest comedy film of all time. Screening at 1 p.m., Dec. 25, should end around 2:40 p.m., giving attendees enough time to view permanent and special exhibits before or after the film. Education and camp fair

Start planning for kid’s and teens’ summer and 2018-19 school year at the “Go Jewish! Fair” from 2-4:30 p.m. on Jan. 28, 2018 at Nicolet High School, 6701 N. Jean Nicolet Rd., Glendale. Free admission and parking.  Attendees will be able to learn about Jewish camps, schools, youth groups and more, with the opportunity to meet one-on-one with educational program and camp representatives. There will also be three drawings to win $100 credit to one of Milwaukee’s Jewish educational programs. Alcoholics Anonymous

An international fellowship of men and women who have had a drinking problem. Meetings are held at multiple times and locations around the city, including 7 p.m. Monday night, Chabad-Lubavitch, 3901 N. Lake Drive, Milwaukee. Breast cancer support

Breast cancer patients, their families and friends are matched with professionally trained breast cancer survivors and co-survivors. All connections are personalized and based on similar diagnoses, treatment plans and circumstances. Services are free and begin with a phone conversation. ABCD: After Breast Cancer Diagnosis supports both patients and survivors. Friendship House Fellowship

A support group for Jewish men and women in recovery from addiction to alcohol or other substances. Requirements for membership are participation in a 12-step program (such as AA or Narcotics Anonymous) and a desire to recover. Meetings are Tuesday, 6:30 p.m. at The Shul, 3901 N. Lake Drive in Milwaukee.

Jewish Family Services

Outpatient mental health services to people dealing with personal problems and mental health issues. Contact 414-390-5800. JFS is located at 1300 N. Jackson St., Milwaukee.

Jewish Grief Group

The Jewish Grief Group, under the auspices of Jewish Family Services, is open to all. Wednesdays, 12-1 p.m. It rotates among local synagogues. Call Jewish Family Services, 414-390-5800, to register.

SPARK! memory loss program

SPARK! Is a program for people experiencing memory loss and their care partners. Jewish Museum Milwaukee holds SPARK! events at 10 a.m. on the first Friday of each month in partnership with Ovation Communities.
