Brewers tailgate party

Survivor of Terezin

Steen Metz is a survivor of Terezin. Metz and his family were deported from Denmark to Terezin in 1943. He will recount his story of survival and how he found strength. 7 p.m. June 8. Artists’ lab exhibition

The sixth annual Milwaukee Jewish Artists’ Laboratory exhibition, “Outside, Inside: Exploring Boundaries and Otherness” opens on Thursday, June 8 at 7 p.m.  As part of the opening reception, the 16 participating artists will be on hand.  The reception and program will be hosted at the Surlow Promenade within the Harry & Rose Samson Family Jewish Community Center, 6255 N. Santa Monica Blvd., Whitefish Bay. 2016-17 Milwaukee Art Lab exhibit artists include Bonita Bruch, Cindy Cooper, Helene Fischman, Peter Goldberg, Jody Hirsh, Barbara Kohl Spiro, Kate Mann, Laeh Benson McHenry, Steven Pevnick, Bev Richey, Julia Shiller, Deanna Spanjar, Marc Tasman, Rochelle Whiteman, Deborah Wolf Lurie, and Clarice Zucker. The exhibit will run through Sept. 15, 2017 and is free and open to the public.

Shalom folk concert

Johnsmith with Dan Sebranek. Singer, songwriter, poet, storyteller and wordsmith are a few of the descriptions for this folk musician. A Wisconsin native, Johnsmith has won several awards including the Kerrville New Folk and Great American Songwriting Contests. June 9, 8 p.m. Part of the Congregation Shalom summer series. J-Pride seeks walkers

J-Pride Milwaukee is looking for walkers to join them in the Milwaukee Pride Parade on June 11 at 2 p.m. J-Pride is a group of greater Milwaukee lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender and questioning Jewish people, their friends and allies, wishing to share social, religious, political, educational and cultural activities in supportive environments. J-Pride Milwaukee is the LGBTQ outreach and inclusion initiative of the Milwaukee Jewish Federation. Rosenblatt exhibit opens

“Moments & Markers: An Adolph Rosenblatt Retrospective” will be open June 16 – Aug. 27 at Jewish Museum Milwaukee, 1360 N. ‘This is Hunger’ exhibit

To raise awareness about the prevalence of hunger in Milwaukee, Congregation Emanu-El B’ne Jeshurun is partnering with MAZON: A Jewish Response to Hunger to bring the “This Is Hunger” exhibit here. Speaker: Chronicle editor

The Adult Havurah of Congregation Emanu-El B’ne Jeshurun, 2020 W. Brown Deer Road, River Hills, will hold an early Kabbalat Shabbat service at 6:15 p.m. June 23, followed by a pot-luck supper at 7 p.m.  Guest speaker will be Rob Golub, the editor of the Wisconsin Jewish Chronicle. He is the former chief editor of The Journal Times, the daily newspaper for Racine County. He won two of this year’s Milwaukee Press Club awards. Golub is licensed to practice law in three states. Author Scott Turow at JCC

New York Times bestselling author Scott Turow will share thoughts on his legal thriller, “Testimony,” during his appearance at the Harry & Rose Samson Family Jewish Community Center at 2 p.m. on Sunday, June 25.  Presented in partnership with Boswell Books, the event will feature Turow in conversation with Mitch Teich, executive producer of WUWM’s “Lake Effect.” Tickets for the event are $30, which includes admission and a copy of “Testimony,” and may be purchased at bpt.me/event/2900888. Music of Rabbi Michel Twerski

Farewell Zehavis, 50 years of Shlichut

Temple Menorah Rummage Sale

ONGOING HEALTH & SUPPORT

Alcoholics Anonymous

An international fellowship of men and women who have had a drinking problem. Meetings are held at multiple times and locations around the city, including 7 p.m. Monday night, Chabad-Lubavitch, 3901 N. Lake Drive, Milwaukee. Friendship House Fellowship

A support group for Jewish men and women in recovery from addiction to alcohol or other substances. Requirements for membership are participation in a 12-step program (such as AA or Narcotics Anonymous) and a desire to recover. Meetings are Tuesday, 6:30 p.m. at The Shul, 3901 N. Lake Drive in Milwaukee.

Jewish Family Services

Outpatient mental health services to people dealing with personal problems and mental health issues. Contact Beth Shapiro, intake coordinator, at 414-390-5800. JFS is located at 1300 N. Jackson St., Milwaukee.

Jewish Grief Group

The Jewish Grief Group, under the auspices of Jewish Family Services, is open to all. Wednesdays, 12 – 1 p.m. It rotates among three local synagogues. Call Beth at Jewish Family Services, 414-390-5800, to register.

North Shore Al-Anon
