Marla Berg

Marla Berg of Milwaukee, who loved spending time with children, grandchildren and extended family, died July 6, 2016. She was 71.

Her spouse Nathan Berg died in 2000.

Marla Berg graduated from Washington High School and University of Wisconsin ­– Milwaukee with a degree in education. The life member of Hadassah was a substitute teacher with Milwaukee Public Schools and a former Sunday school teacher at Congregation Beth-El Ner Tamid and Congregation Anshai Lebowitz. She loved animals and children.

Survivors include daughter Risa Berg (Rizal Iskandarsjach) of Bayside and son Marc (Tijne) Berg of the Netherlands. Granddaughters are Nina and Sidra Iskandarsjach and Juliette and Natalia Berg. She is also survived by sister Linda (Warren) Jacobson as well as beloved sister-in law Judith (Lowell) Smotkin.

Burial was at Second Home Cemetery on July 10, 2016 with Rabbi Tiferet Berenbaum and Goodman-Bensman Funeral Home. Memorial contributions may be sent to the Milwaukee Jewish Day School or Congregation Shir Hadash.

Sheldon Gendelman

Sheldon Gendelman, who died July 15, 2016, is remembered by family and friends as a well-loved and respected community elder and mentor. He was 85.

Gendelman, of Mequon, died of respiratory failure.

He was born Oct 5, 1930. The Washington High School graduate went on to University of Wisconsin – Madison where he graduated with a bachelor’s degree in 1952.

He was a member of Congregation Beth Israel Ner Tamid and served on numerous charitable boards, including the Milwaukee Jewish Federation, Chai Point, the Jewish Home & Care Center, the American Jewish Congress and Milwaukee Area Technical College.

He was a businessman with his brother Max for more than 30 years. He owned Century Hardware Corp. with Max. Later, he owned Dealer Mart. He was an avid sportsman who enjoyed sailing, tennis, waterskiing and downhill skiing.

He was beloved husband of Danni Gendelman, father of Lori (Jim), Jeff (Ginny), and Stefan (Lisa) Gendelman and cherished grandfather of Megan, Sara, Adin and Loren Gendelman.

Rabbi Jacob Herber was the clergy with Second Home Cemetery for burial. Blane Goodman Funeral Service was the home.

Edith Gross

Edith (nee Sernovitz) Gross, who enjoyed her granddaughters, reading and politics, died July 14, 2016. She was 98.

She was preceded in death by spouse Herbert Gross in 1986. Born in Milwaukee on July 21, 1917, she graduated from Washington High School in 1935. She lived in New York City for many years and returned here in 1976.

Edith Gross was a bookkeeper and had worked for F.W. Woolworth.

Survivors include daughter Marlene (John Ackeret) Gross-Ackeret and son Robert (Anthony Mariano) Gross; sisters Ruth (the late Mickey) Pardo and Elaine (George) Zimbel; and other relatives and friends.

Burial was at Second Home Cemetery on July 17 with Rabbi Toba Schaller and Blane Goodman Funeral Service.
