Documentary films from Israel to be shown

Two documentary films from Israel will be presented in Milwaukee during September by the filmmaker, Yehuda Yaniv, who also is the father of Israel emissary to Milwaukee Amit Yaniv-Zehavi.

"Unetane Tokef" follows the process of composing a new melody to the words of the traditional High Holidays prayer. The 52-minute film focusses on the late Yair Rosenblum who lived in Kibbutz Beit Shita. He wrote the piece in memory of 11 kibbutz members who diied during the Yom Kippur War of 1973. It will be shown on Thursday, Sept. 24 in the Rubenstein Pavilion, 1414 N. Prospect Ave. Admission is free.

"The Crucial Choices of N. Bezem" examines the creative life of Israeli painter Naftali Bezem. It follows him through 15 years of his work in Israel and abroad. The 52-minute film will be shown on Wednesday, Sept. 30, 7 p.m., at the Harry & Rose Samson Family Jewish Community Center, 6255 N. Santa Monica Blvd. Admission is free.

The films are being presented by the Milwaukee Jewish Federation’s Israel Center. The first showing is co-sponsored by Chai Point Senior Living; the second by the JCC and the MJF’s Nathan and Esther Pelz Holocaust Education Resource Center.
