Shirley Gilbert of Deerfield Beach, Fla., died June 10 of natural causes. She was 88.
She was born in Cleveland, Ohio, and graduated from John Hay High School there in 1945. She and her husband Samuel Gilbert came to Milwaukee from Los Angeles to open and operate a business.
She was corporate secretary and bookkeeper of the family business, Astra Plating Inc. She served as president of a Milwaukee chapter of Women’s American ORT and was a lifetime member of the City of Hope.
She also served as a foster parent and a leader of Girl Scout Troop 518.
She enjoyed cruising with the family on boats she and her husband owned. She also enjoyed knitting, reading, traveling, gardening, word search books and crossword puzzles.
Her husband died in 2010 after they were married for 61 years. She is survived by daughters Faye (Arthur Krasnow) Gilbert and Barbara Gilbert; son Michael (Linda Levy) Gilbert; and four grandchildren.
Blane Goodman Funeral Service handled arrangements. Rabbi Steve Adams officiated at the funeral on June 14. Burial was in Mound Zion Cemetery.
The family suggests memorial contributions be made to the charity of the donor’s choice.
Aaron N. Leff of Glendale died on April 24 of pneumonia. He was 91.
He was born in Atlanta, Ga. He graduated from Thomas Jefferson High School in New York City in 1942 and attended the Georgia Institute of Technology in Atlanta. He came to Milwaukee in 1946.
He served in the Army Air Force as a navigator in France, Italy and Germany. He worked in recycling for Louis Bass, Inc., and later for the Crestwood Company.
He belonged to Beth El Ner Tamid Synagogue, where he served on the board of trustees, Congregation Shir Hadash and Congregation Beth Israel Ner Tamid. He was also a member of a Masonic lodge. He had a bar mitzvah celebration when he was 80.
He served as a board member of Mound Zion Cemetery. According to his daughter, Sarie (Larry) Shainock of Fox Point, he became the ground superintendent of the cemetery from about 1977 to 1997.
His family added that he was one of the founders of the Multiple Sclerosis Society of Wisconsin; that he loved Westerns, reading and “having his station wagon,” and that “his fried matzah had no competition.”
In addition to his daughter, he is survived by his wife Ruth (nee Bass); daughters Barbara Leff and Joy Leff, both of Chicago; son Jack (Irene) Leff of Bayside; and three grandchildren.

Fred Meyer of Glendale died July 25. He was 84.
He was a Milwaukee native who graduated from Washington High School in 1949. He earned an associate degree in horticulture at the University of Minnesota in 1951.
He worked in sales at Advanced Induserve Supply in Menomonee Falls.
He was a member of Congregation Beth Israel Ner Tamid, the Jewish War Veterans and the Masons.
He is survived by his wife Janice; sons Howard Meyer and Gary (Anne) Meyer; and four grandchildren.

Gary Allen Paler of Mequon died on Aug. 2. He was 68.
He was a Milwaukee native. He graduated from the University of Wisconsin-Madison. He was one of the owners of Miller Builders.
He was a member of Congregation Shalom, served as its president and sang in its choir. He was also a member of the Harry & Rose Samson Family Jewish Community Center and enjoyed using its health center.
He also enjoyed sports, particularly golf, and music, according to his family.
He is survived by his wife Daryle Paler (nee Goldberg); daughters Julie Aron of Los Angeles, Lisa Paler of San Francisco and Shannon (Nathan) Bernstein of Fox Point; brother Rick (Leslie) Paler of Mequon; and two grandchildren.

Blema Harriet Pollack, nee Marcus, died July 6 of pneumonia. She was 88.
She was a Milwaukee native who graduated from Pulaski High School in 1944.
She was a member of Women’s American ORT, NA’AMAT and the sisterhood of Beth El Ner Tamid Synagogue.
She enjoyed many types of crafts, including painting, weaving, knitting and ceramics.
Her husband, Jack, died in 2002. She is survived by daughters Susan Pollack of Indio, Calif., and Marilyn Pollack of Canyon Country, Calif.; sons Alan Pollack of San Clemente, Calif., Richard Pollack of Rockford, Ill., and Mark Pollack of Pittsburgh, Pa.; brothers Eugene (Terry) Marcus of Pewaukee and Norman (Doreen) Marcus of Bayside; and three grandchildren.

Milwaukee native Jeannette Wolinsky, nee Rosen, of Chicago, died on May 24 of complications from a fall. She was 94.
She was predeceased by her husband, Abraham B. Wolinsky. She is survived by children Diane Sadjak, Dennis Wolinsky and Debra Wolinsky; and three grandchildren.
She was buried May 26 in Second Home Cemetery.
