Obituaries for November 2014

Nathan Kalman

          Nathan Kalman of Fort Atkinson died Sept. 26 of natural causes. He was 89.

          He was born in Poland and came to Wisconsin from Hungary in 1949. He was a self-employed tailor. He was a member of Chabad of Waukesha.

          His wife Sophia (nee Rasansky) died in 1993. He is survived by daughters Fraidy (Moshe) Kroynik of New York City, Monica (Richard) Katz of Brown Deer and Brenda (Scott) Wagner of Lake Mills; son Yitzchok (Zipporah) Kalman of Chicago; 20 grandchildren and more than 50 great-grandchildren.

          Goodman-Bensman Whitefish Bay Funeral Home handled arrangements. Rabbis Levi Brook and Michel Twerski officiated at the funeral on Sept. 28. Burial was in Second Home Cemetery.

          The family suggests memorial contributions to Chabad of Waukesha, 1222 E. Broadway St., Waukesha, WI, 53218.

 

Sheldon B. Malmon

          Sheldon B. Malmon of Ocala, Fla., died Oct. 1 after a short illness. He was 77.

          He was a Milwaukee native who graduated from North Division High School in 1955 and attended the University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee, where, according to his family, he began to be known as “Smiley.” He also was a member of the Phi Sigma Delta fraternity in college.

          He lived in Milwaukee and then Fox Point, before moving to Florida in 2003, first to Ormond Beach and finally, Ocala. Despite his relocation, he remained a dedicated Green Bay Packers and Wisconsin Badgers fan throughout his life.

            As a young man, he served in the US Army Reserves for five years.

            He worked in the clothing business for most of his career, including Brill’s in Milwaukee and later as a salesman for Flying Cross Uniforms. According to his family, he enjoyed the travels throughout the Midwest that his job entailed.

            He played clarinet as a youth and enjoyed jazz music. His family states that he was an accomplished cook known for his homemade pizza and pasta. He was also a devoted tennis and golf player.

            He was a member of Congregation Shalom and served on its education committee.

          He is survived by his wife, Ruth (nee Kramer); daughters Elizabeth (Jeffrey) Lewis and Ellen (Dan Goldberg) Malmon; sister Sunsh (Robert Charney) Stein; and three grandchildren.

          Roberts Funeral Home in Ocala handled arrangements. A memorial service is planned to take place in Milwaukee later this year.

          The family suggests memorial contributions to Congregation Shalom or the Alzheimer’s Association.
