JCF works to secure community’s future

The Jewish Community Foundation was established in 1973 as the endowment development program of the Milwaukee Jewish Federation.

Over the years, it has become the central address for the charitable and estate-planning activities of hundreds of members of our community.

The year 2013 proved to be an outstanding year in the area of fund development for the JCF. By joining with individuals and families along with agency, synagogue and day school partners, a total of 36 new funds were created. The new funds include memorial funds honoring the memory of generous donors, donor advised funds and endowment funds.

To what can this record growth be attributed? “The donor advised fund continues to be an appealing philanthropic vehicle that offers tax benefits, ease and convenience in gift planning,” said Caren B. Goldberg, JCF executive director. “And the number of conversations about endowments within the community is increasing creating a deeper understanding of how these funds can help to secure our future.”

The JCF’s total assets have topped $141 million, and the JCF continues to expand outreach efforts to engage donors in meaningful conversations about their vision for the future of our Jewish community.

“We are honored to work with donors who are passionate about making a difference in the lives of those in our community and the world through charitable giving,” said Stephen L. Chernof, JCF chair. “We are inspired by the community’s trust and confidence and are grateful to our donors and partners who are providing a proud legacy that will serve our community for generations to come.”
