Letter: Pantry is grateful for community support

The Jewish Community Pantry is our Jewish communal response to hunger in the Milwaukee area. Its staff and volunteers wish to thank the synagogues who support the pantry with food drives during the High Holidays.

They are: Congregation Beth Israel Ner Tamid, Congregation Emanu El B’ne Jeshurun, Congregation Shalom, Congregation Shir Hadash, Congregation Sinai and Temple Menorah.

We also want to thank the local vendors who continue to contribute to the Pantry on a weekly basis. They are: Boulangerie Du Monde in Cedarburg, Breadsmith in Whitefish Bay, Einstein Bagels in Mequon, Panera Bread in Mequon and Trader Joe’s in Glendale.

We also thank you members of the community for your support of the pantry. The pantry could not provide this service without you.

This past year, we have increased the number of households and clients that we serve by 20 percent.

The Jewish Community Pantry is open every Thursday 10:30 a.m. to 3 p.m.; and the third Sunday of the month, 11:30 a.m. to 2 p.m. We are located at 2930 W. Center St. (entrance on the northwest corner of 29th St.).

The pantry serves people from all zip codes and all ethnic groups with a general food pantry, kosher section and infant section. Monetary donations and non-perishable food items are welcome.

For information about the pantry, contact me, Dorene Paley, community services director at the Harry & Rose Samson Family Jewish Community Center, dpaley@jccmilwaukee.org or 414-967-8217.

The Jewish Community Pantry is part of the Emergency Pantry Network of the Hunger Task Force. It is co-sponsored by the JCC and Women’s Philanthropy of the Milwaukee Jewish Federation.
