Birth Announcements for February 2014

          A son, Micah Solomon (Hebrew name Micah Shlomo), was born Nov. 26 to Rachel and Jeffrey Cohn of Springfield, N.J. He is their first child.

          The maternal grandparents are Joanna Barouch of East Brunswick, N.J., and Nathan Raboy of Binghamton, N.Y. Deborah Schmidt of San Antonio, Texas, and David Cohn of Milwaukee are the paternal grandparents.

          The baby is named in memory of his maternal great-grandparents Marguerite and Saul Raboy and Stephen Martin, and his paternal great-grandfather, Solomon Weisenburg.

          A son, Garrett Reed, was born Dec. 18 to Lori Friedman and Josh Laurie of Plymouth, Minn. He is the brother of Brendan, 4.

          The maternal grandparents are Barb and Sid Friedman of Bayside. Joey and Jerry Laurie of Golden Valley, Minn., are the paternal grandparents.

          The baby is named in memory of his maternal great-grandfather, Robert Klein.

          A son, Menachem Mendel Didan Notzach, was born on Dec. 7 (Tevet 5) to Chaya Faige and Aitaw Yehoshua Samuels-Abend of Cornwall on the Hudson, N.Y. He is their first child.

          The maternal grandparents are Chashy and Rabbi Yoseph Samuels of Milwaukee. Rochel Goodyear and Mordechai Abend of New York City are the maternal grandparents.

          The maternal great-grandmother is Edith Samuels of New York City.

          The baby is named in memory of the last Lubavitcher Rebbe, Rabbi Menachem Mendel Schneerson (1902-1994), and in memory of a court case that on Jewish date Tevet 5, 5748 (1987), resolved an ownership dispute over rare and valuable Jewish books, the anniversary of which has since become a Lubavitch festival named Didan Notzach (literally “we are victorious”).

          A son, Jordan Harvey, was born on Oct. 31 to Randi and Eric Schachter of Fox Point. He is the couple’s first child.

          The maternal grandparents are Gail and Martin Komisar of Milwaukee. Wendy and Robert Schachter of Boca Raton, Fla., are the paternal grandparents.

          The maternal great-grandparents are Suzanne Goldstein of Milwaukee and Claire and the late Morton Komisar of Mequon.

          The baby is named in memory of his maternal great-grandfather, Harold Goldstein, and his paternal great-grandfathers, Jack Masin and Jack Schachter.
