Poli-sci student Gursky
joins political campaign

          Political science student Samantha Gursky, who recently completed her freshman year at Touro College, has been appointed a team leader for New York City Public Advocate Bill de Blasio’s mayoral bid. At 19, she is the youngest team leader on the campaign, according to a feature article on the “We are Touro” section of the college’s website.

          She also worked last summer for State Assemblyman Phil Goldfeder, who won a special election in September 2011, and on State Sen. Joseph P. Addabbo’s re-election campaign representing the 15th Senate District.

          A native of Herndon, Va., Gursky grew up in Milwaukee and graduated from Hillel Academy in 2008. She and her family moved to New York four years ago. She graduated from Midreshet Shalhevet Jewish high school for girls.

 
Hillel Academy releases
honor roll students’ names

          Hillel Academy Jewish day school recently released the names of the middle school students on its honor roll for the third trimester. These students “excelled in all core content areas,” according to a release from the school.

          8th Grade: Zachary Katz.

          7th Grade: Alex Bader, Liora Bushee, Chaya Duboff, Lytal Lere, Mushkie Rapoport, Levi Shmotkin, Avreme’le Spalter.

          6th Grade: Yoni Coder, Irene Truitt, Arie Mandelblum, Srulie Robbins, Zalmi Shmotkin, Yasmine Ferguson, Saraleah Lakritz.

          5th Grade: Yossi Duboff, Jacob Weiner, Chava Shira Mandelbaum, Sara’le Spalter.

          4th Grade: Natan Bushee, Rebecca Kalmar, Yosef Lerer, Ariel Lotman, Benji Posner.

 
Kravit earns dental degree

          Jessie Kravit of Fox Point earned her D.D.S. degree from the Arthur A. Dugoni School of Dentistry at the University of the Pacific in San Francisco on June 16.

          She grew up in Fox Point, and is a graduate of Milwaukee Jewish Day School, Nicolet High School and the University of Wisconsin-Madison. At Nicolet, she was a runner on the 4 x 400 meter track team that won the Division I state title in 2005.

          Kravit began her two year residency in pediatric dentistry at New York University in New York City on July 1.

 
Sverdlik graduates with honors

          Alexandr Sverdlik of Glendale recently received a Bachelor of Arts degree from the Northwestern University Weinberg College of Arts and Sciences.

          Sverdlik, a graduate of Nicolet High School, was a history and political science major. He was a member of Phi Beta Kappa national academic honor society and graduated with honors.
