Morris R. Guten Auxiliary
to present last scholarships

          After more than 60 years, 2013 will be the last year that the Morris R. Guten Auxiliary No. 487, Jewish War Veterans of the U.S.A., will present scholarships to high school students to use toward their first semester of higher education.

          Moreover, this will be one of the auxiliary’s last events before the organizations closes for good, according to Joan Luck, one of the three chairs of the organization.

          According to a note to The Chronicle written by Arleen Peltz, scholarship chair, “Most of our members have passed away and the rest of the members are either too ill or have other issues to carry on.”

          The auxiliary will present 13 scholarships at a ceremony on Sunday, May 19, 1 p.m., at the Jewish Home and Care Center, 1414 N. Prospect Ave. The community is invited. A reception will follow.

          The scholarships and recipients are:

          • Dr. Paul and Ann Guten Memorial Scholarship ($1500): Talia Berman.

          • Bonny Lynn Mechanic Memorial Scholarship ($1000) Linda Ste Marie.

          • Harry Hecht Family Memorial Scholarship ($1000): Benjamin Levey.

          • Nancy Lynn Radbil Memorial Scholarship ($1500): William Cooper.

          • Nancy Lynn Radbill Memorial Scholarship ($1000): Elisabeth Platt.

          • Dr. Gary and Marcia Rose Scholarship ($1000): Elana Lambert.

          • Barbara Stein Scholarship ($1000): Liviya David.

          • Zavik/Bubrick Memorial Award ($1000): Sydney Silverberg.

          • Zavick/Bubrick Memorial Award In Memory of Dorothy Nashban ($1000): Hannah Mandlman.

          • Bernice Persten Memorial Scholarship ($1000): Andrew Keene.

          • Bernice Persten Memorial Scholarship ($1000): Alicia Rowen.

          • Scott Phillips Family Scholarship In Memory of Sam Winick and Kenneth Phillips ($500): Brandyn McLean.

          • Walter W. Peltz Memorial, Nancy Lynn Radbil Memorial, Sandra Adland In Memory of Dr. Sam and Ida Adland, Morry Fodiman Award, Morris R. Guten Auxiliary Scholarship ($1000): Jacob Watton.

          Members of the scholarship committee include Faye Green, Lore Keller, Edith Kohler, Joan Luck, Sylvia Spiegel, co-chair Helene Radbil, and chair Arleen Peltz.

 
Frank named
to dean’s list

          Noah Frank, a nursing major, was named to the dean’s list at Carroll University in Waukesha for the fall 2012 semester. To qualify for this honor, a student must have a grade point average for the semester of at least 3.5 on a 4-point scale.

          Frank is a 2009 graduate of Meor Hatorah High School and the son of Sarah and Jay Frank of Milwaukee.

 
Hillel Academy
posts honor roll

          Hillel Academy, the oldest Jewish day school in the Milwaukee area, has announced its middle school honor roll students for its second trimester. They are:

          Eighth Grade: Leigh Bojan.

          Seventh Grade: Alex Bader, Liora Bushee, Chaya Duboff, Lytal Lerer, Avreme’le Spalter.

          Sixth Grade: Yonni Coder, Yasmine Ferguson, Saraleah Lakritz, Srulie Robbins, Irene Truitt, Zalmi Shmotkin.

          Fifth Grade: Chava Shira Mandelbaum, Sara’le Spalter.

          Fourth Grade: Aidel Bekker, Natan Bushee, Rebecca Kalmar, Yosef Lerer, Ariel Lotman, Benji Posner.
